The cottage is on a working dairy farm 3 miles from the lovely county town of Kircudbright, where a Summer Festival is held with lots of family activities and weekly Scottish nights. Galloway is beautiful walking country with sailing, watersports, sandy beaches (4 miles), golf, fishing, castles, abbeys and gardens all within easy reach. Largs is a popular coastal holiday centre with excellent amenities for all the family and a wide range of recreational pursuits in the area including fishing, golf, sailing, boat hire and hillwalking. It has a famous Viking Centre and ferryport with day trips to Rothesay and Millport. Largs also provides a good touring base to explore the delightful coastal villages . With a railway station and good bus service along the coast, this may be a suitable choice for visitors without a car. Ideal for the larger family, Colislinn was built in 1896 and stands in 8 acres of private land with large lawned gardens, flower beds, an old kitchen garden, children's trampoline, paddocks, woodland and rolling Borders hills beyond. Through the grounds runs a burn which flows into the Slitrig Water - guests can take a swim in the natural pool. Local activities include golf, horse-riding, fishing and hill-walking. Hawick is 2½ miles away with good shops and pubs. The house retains many fine period features including turrets, open log fires and original wooden floors. Our Mains of Taymouth Cottages are situated round a private courtyard with ample car parking facilities outside the courtyard. Each house has an enclosed garden and all have travel cot, high chair and stairgates. The Courtyard restaurant is family friendly, Kenmore Golf Club and the local trekking centre are a couple of minutes' walk and Kenmore has its own safe, sandy beach, a 5 minute stroll away. There are miles of forestry tracks on your doorstep for walkers and cyclists as well as lovely riverside walks. Our cottage has an enclosed garden, and is located in a rural setting, on a private road with virtually no traffic. It is equipped with a cot and a high chair, fireguard, dvds/videos, toys. Less than a mile away is Cream 'O Galloway visitor centre - a dairy farm with indoor playbarn, bike hire, adventure playground, woodland walks and great ice cream! The nearby beaches are ideal for children, with plenty of rock pools and marine life to be explored. From the front door, there are lovely woodland walks and easy cycling. The field opposite often has cattle, and there are wild deer, red squirrels, rabbits and birdwatching.
